Palak Khichdi

Recently we visited a small restaurant in Egmore , Chennai called as Novelty.Generally this place is supposed to be crowded on weekends as it serves good vegetarian food but we were lucky to get a table with minimum waiting .We order the usual soup, starter and main course. What stood out was the palak kichadi. It was heavenly. Couldn’t stop myself from trying this at home.
INGREDIENTS
Palak
2 bunches
Onion
1
Basmati rice
1cup
Masoor dal
1/2 cup
Ginger garlic paste
1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder
1/8th tsp
Chilli powder
1tsp
Corainder powder
1tsp
Cumin powder
1tsp
Garam masala
1tsp
Cumin seeds
1/2tsp
Oil
1tsp
Ghee
few tbsp
Salt
to taste

PREPARATION
Wash and soak the rice and dal for 15 minutes. Drain it and keep aside
Take out only the leaves of the spinach. Put it in boiling water and cook for few minutes. Take out only the leaves. Let it cool completely. Now grind it and keep aside
Chop the onions finely
Heat the oil in a small pressure pan.Add the cumin seeds and when it sizzles add the cut onions and cook in low flame till it becomes transparent
Now add the spinach puree and cook for 2 minutes
Add all the dry masala powders, mix well and add the rice dal mixture.
Now add 3 cups of water and salt. Close the lid of the pressure pan and cook upto 3 whistes
Let the pressure release completely.
Open the lid slowly, mash with a ladle, add some ghee and serve warm
