Hyderabadi Khatti Dal


Another delicious dal which pairs very well with hot rice and a dry curry. It is a little different from the rest of the dal’s that I cook since it uses a wee bit of tamarind for that tangy taste.
INGREDIENTS

Tuvar dal
1 cup
Tomato
1(Chopped finely)
Turmeric
1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder
1/2 tsp
Grated Ginger
1/2 tsp
Garlic
1(crushed)
Green chillies
2(chopped finely)
Tamarind pulp
2tbsp
Salt
To Taste
FOR SESONING
Oil
2tbsp
Mustard seeds
2 tsp
Cumin seeds
1tsp
Red chillies
3
Curry leaves
few
Coriander
1tbsp

PREPARATION
Clean and wash the dal
Heat oil in a pressure pan.
Add the mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. When it splutters add the crushed garlic, ginger and red chillies, saute for few seconds.
Now add the dal, red chilli powder,Turmeric powder, green chilli, tomatoes and 2 cups of water.
Put the weight on and cook up to 3 whistles.
When the pressure subsides, add the tamarind pup and salt, cook in open for 2-3 minutes. Garnish with coriander and curry leaves

Serve warm with hot rice and dry curry!!
