Akki Tari Upittu


Akki tari or rice rava upma with avarekalu or mochai paruppu is quite famous in Bangalore. Now that fresh mochai paruppu is available in the market, we make this upma quite often
INGREDIENTS

Avarekalu
1cup
Rice rava
1cup
Water
1cup
Oil
1tbsp
Mustard seeds
1tsp
Black gram dal
1tsp
Bengal gram dal
1tsp
Asafoetida
1/4tsp
Green chillies
2
Fresh coconut
2tbsp

PREPARATION
Dry roast the rice rava for a few minutes
Pressure cook the avarekalu in enough water with little salt till soft. Drain and keep aside
Heat oil in a pan and when sufficiently hot add the mustard seeds. When it splutters add asafoetida and green chillies, saute for a minute and then add water and let it boil
When it starts boiling add salt and the cooked beans, mix well and add the roasted rice rava. Mix well
Add the coconut , mix and close with a lid and let it cook in a low flame till all the water is absorbed
Serve warm
