Kharabath

For the week 1 of Blogging marathon, I have chosen the theme of "Course specific Regional dishes" and the region will be Karnataka..the place I was born. No matter how much you adapt yourself to your home that you are married into, yet even after many years you do crave for some simple pleasures related to your birth place. One such is a simple dish, our own upma with a masala flavour....Perfect breakfast with a hot cup of coffee

INGREDIENTS
Rava                                 1cup
Hot water                         4 cups
Ghee                                 3 tbsps
Onion                               1
Carrot                              1
Tomato                            1
Beans                               4-5
Ginger garlic paste          1 tsp
Turmeric powder            1/4 tsp
Chilli powder                 1tsp
Vangibath powder           2tsp
Cashew                            few
Grated fresh coconut      1tbsp
Mustard                          1tsp
Black gram dal              1/2 tsp
Bengal Gram dal          1/2 tsp
Asafoetida                     1/4 tsp
Curry leaves                  few
Salt                                 to taste

PREPARATION
Chop all the vegetables finely
Roast the rava in 1 tbsp of ghee till a good aroma comes out
Heat the remaining 2 tbsp ghee in a pan , add mustard seeds. Once it splutters add the blackgram and bengal gram dal, saute it. Now add asafoetida and saute for few seconds on low flame
Next add the cut onions, mix well and saute till it becomes transaparent
Next goes in the ginger garllic paste, saute for 1 minute
Now add all of the finely cut vegetables, saute till it is semicooked
Now add the turmeric powder, chilli ppowder, ad vangibath powder, mix well and continue to xook in low flame for 1 minute
Now add the roasted rava, pour hot boiling water, sprinkle the salt and coconut and curry leaves, mix well,close with a lid and cook in low lame for 3-4 minutes till all the moisture is absobed and what you see is a lovely soft textured kharabath unlike the dry upma
