This is one of the recipes that I have learnt from my cousin sister. Wonder how she comes up with so many thogayal varieties.
INGREDIENTS
Cabbage 1/2 cup
Black gram dal 2 tsp
Bengal gram dal 2 tsp
Red chillies 2
Tamarind a small ball
Oil 2tsp
Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
TEMPERING
Oil 1tsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
PREPARATION
Cut the cabbage into small pieces and cook in in microwave on MICROHIGH for 3 minutes in a micro safe bowl and closed with a lid. Let it cool
Soak the tamamrind in warm water for 5 minutes
Meanwhile heat oil in a pan, add blackgram, bengal gram, red chillies and asafoetida and saute till the dal becomes light brown in colour. Switch off the fire and let it cool
Now grind the dal mixture, soaked tamatind, cooked cabbage and salt together into a smooth paste
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When it splutters , pour it on the prepared thogayal
Serve it with hot rice
