Erisseri

I like to try out new recipes. I am sure most of us do.This Bm#32 is a perfect platform for me to try these authentic recipes and blog about it. For the alphabet E there was no confusion at all. I knew it was going to be Erisseri. But did I know the recipe???No:-). But I have the recipe now. Thanks to Unnikrishnan our family friend, who is ever ready to help you in all things possible including these authentic kerala recipes.So here is his version of the famous kerala Erisseri

INGREDIENTS
Pumpkin                 2 cups(cubed)
Turmeric powder     1/4 tsp
Salt                         to taste
TO BE GROUND INTO A FINE PASTE
Fresh coconut         1/4 cup
Cumin seeds            1tsp
Green chilli              1(optional)
FOR TEMPERING
Oil                          2tsp
Ghee                       2 tsp
Mustard seeds         1 tsp
Cumin seeds           1/2 tsp
Red chillies             3-4
Fresh coconut        2 tbsp
Curry leaves          few
PREPARATION
Wash and cut the pumpkin into cubes
Cook this with turmeric and enough water in a pan. Cook till it just about cooked. Do not let it become mushy.
Meanwhile grind coconut, cumin and green chilli into a fine paste.
Add this to the cooked pumpkin with some more water and salt. Continue to cook in low flame for 3-4 minutes.Switch off the fire.
Now heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. When it starts to splutter add the cumin, red chillies and curry leaves. Now add the coconut and saute in low flame for a minute.The coconut will start to brown now. Switch off the fire, Add the ghee now. Mix well and pour on the prepared Erisseri
Serve hot with rice
