Ulundu Kozhukattai-Vinayaka chaturthi special

For the week 1 of Avant Garde Cookies for the month of september. I am continuing with the chaturthi recipes and today is the  savoury kozhukkattai.


INGREDIENTS
For the covering
Rice flour 1 cup
Water 1 cup
Salt 1/2 tsp
Oil 2 tsp
FOR THE FILLING
 Urad dhal       1/2 cup
Green chillies    2
Coconut scrapping    2-3 tbsp
Lemon   juice               2tsp
Salt                        to taste
Oil                     2tsp
Mustard             1tsp
Asafoetida          1/4 tsp

PREPARATION
FOR THE FILLING
Soak the black gram dhal in water for 1 hour
Drain all the water and cook it in cooker upto 3 whistles or till done
Grind it into a coarse paste along with chillies, salt..
Add oil in the frying pan.
Add the mustard and when it splutters add the green chillies, dhal, curry leaves and asaforida
Now add the ground paste to this and saute till it becomes a little dry.Squeeze the lemon into this and mix well.
Sprinkle the coconut on this,mix and let it cool.

FOR THE COVERING
Take a microwave safe bowl. Add water, salt and oil to it. Close with a microwave safe lid and microwave it on HIGH for 2 minutes.

Remove the lid and add the rice flour and mix thoroughly without lumps.Close with the lid and again microwave it for 1minute in MEDIUM HIGH mode.
Take it out and see if all the moisture is absorbed or else cook for another 30 secs

I HAVE USED MICROWAVE COOKING FOR THIS PART. YOU CAN ALSO USE THE TRADITION WAY OF DOING THIS IN THE STOVE TOP MODE


Let it cool. sprinkle a little water and knead into a smooth dough.
Pinch small balls from this. Flatten each into a circle.
Keep little filling inside this on one half of the circle
Close it like a half circle
Steam till done
Savoury Prasadam ready!!
