Vazhaipoo Paruppu Usili/Banana Blossom Curry

After a short break from blogging in this blog I am back with this vazhzipoo Usli. If you are wondering as to what I have been doing all these days.....I was a little busy with my embroideryWell..back to this post. For this month's Blog hop wednesday I have been paired with Schmetterling Words. She has an amazing space and it was very difficult to choose one particular dish. Finally I decided on her Vazhaipoo Usli.I made a few minor changes like omitting the onions and coconut. Tasted awesome!!Do visit her space to see more of yummy dishes
Banana flower 1
Tuvar dal 1/4 cup
Red chillies 3-4
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Soak the dal for 45 minutes in water
Clean and cut the banana blossom as shown here
Microwave it for 5 minutes-closed or cook it in stove top for 5 minutes in a closed kadai without any water.Keep it aside.
Drain all the water from the dal and transfer this to a mixer
Now grind the dal with red chillies and salt without any extra water into a very coarse paste.
Heat a kadai with 1 tbsp of oil
Add mustard seeds to this and when it splutters add the turmeric powder and then add the ground paste.Now mix it well and let it cook in medium flame till all the dal it cooked and it starts to become dry.
Now add the cooked banana flower to this, mix well and cook for another 5-7 minutes in a very low flame with a lid closed.
Switch off the fire and a tasty curry ready to be served in the lunch
